AD: Seas the Day

For this assignment, I was to design a newspaper ad. Our theme was Travel. Doing my research and brainstorming, I came up with the best idea for a vacation idea.

People can buy a ticket to get on a Riverboat on the Mississippi River and experience a murder mystery. It will last a few hours and then return back to the dock. It would be a romantic experience.

Figuring out the idea was difficult all on its own. The subject of travel is very broad and many, many things can go under it. What made it easier for me, was the inspiration from my previous vacation that I did with my family.

We had just come home from a Mexican cruise. We were there for seven days. But I realized that there really isn’t any cruise brochures out there. Yes, you see a lot of travel agents and advertising themselves and what they can do for you, but not the vacation itself. This was my goal to see how I can portray this in my assignment.

Putting together an ad needs to be simple and to the point. But it also has to be catchy to draw in people to look at it. Looking at an ad looks very simple but behind the scenes, can be very tricky and time consuming. The color, typeface and the picture all have to work together in a way that it is  pleasing to the eye. As my other instructors here at Salt Lake Community College have taught me…. it is all about the presentation!
