TYPE FIGURE: GECKO

This is my first assignment in Advanced Typography at Salt Lake Community College. I admit, this was very challenging for me.  Understanding type as a shape and placing each character in a way to show the definition of the picture chosen.

I started with Vera Ellen in White Christmas. If I had a little more time to build up my confidence, then I would have loved to complete this photo to a beautiful type figure.

The other option I picked was a leopard gecko. My heart goes out to this type of animal. I have two lizards at my home. I never would have thought that I would like or have a reptile as a pet. Of course I would change a lot of things with this assignment as well.

Changing a picture to all type, gives the picture more class and more definition. Just changing the type face could give the image a new look. Changing the size, depth and height would also give the image something more pleasing to look at. The options are endless in how to alternate a photo or an image.

Surprisingly enough, the “type figures” are all around, we just don’t notice it. I was doing homework at my kitchen table and I happened to observe my sons’ shirt a little more closely. It was a Star Wars figure made out of only type. I am quite sure that he has worn this shirt numerous times. This tells me that it can look normal if done correctly.
